Sew-free blankets

This location is shown only to members

I am an activities day leader with some children from my church and we are working on sew-free blankets for them and a senior citizen's home (belated Valentine's day project) for February 17.

If you are interested in learning how to make these blankets I am doing an optional class day this Wednesday from 4:30pm - 6:30pm at my home in Phelan. The concept for these blankets is that we are taking two blankets (felt material), one solid color and one patterned and using a technique where we are not tying them together on the edges, but pulling them through a hole. I am putting picture directions together for those of you who are interested, but aren't able to attend, in making them at home. I was able to get the blankets recently on sale at Anna's Linen for $2.99/each, so the entire project excluding a few pieces of yarn for $6.00 + tax. They make great projects to sell or wonderful bedspreads and/or warm, cozy lap blankets and/or shawls.

This is a free activity as you will only learn how to make the product and then have the option to purchase the items on your own.

If you have a group of 5+ to make these blankets in your area we can arrange a class. Just contact me. We use scissors, needles and an awl type tool, so it needs to be age appropriate or under the guidance of an adult.

Although we had bad weather those with trucks were able to make it out to work on the blankets. We still have lots to do. So, we'll be offering the class again.

Incredible fleece blankets. I will be putting instructions on this website with pictures of the finished product. The youngest to do this was 9 years old w/supervision as we use scissors and an awl that needs to be poked through the fabric. There's a needle for tying too, but that is it! Very simple. We were able to finish a blanket within 2 hours. (approx. 60 inches x 40 inches). With larger pieces of fabric you can make a bedspread, but that will require more tying.
