Boulder Creek Ranch's 1st Annual Chili Cookoff
October 9th, 2010

Boulder Creek Ranch's 1st Annual Chili Cookoff is KICKING LYME'S BUTT
In love and support of Misty Brown

When Misty dropped her daughter Brennley off for her first day of Kindergarten, like many moms, she was crying. What no one knew was that her overwhelming tears were not simply becasue she was going to miss Brennley. misty's tears were because she was going to miss her wo year old daughter. Her tears were because there was a time she thought maybe just maybe it might be better for Brennley, if she said goodbye and saved her daughter from watching her suffer and die slowly of an unknown cause. Her tears were filled with both joy and pain because while she was there to hold her daughter's hand on a day that was so important and so valuable, she still didnt know if she would get this same opportunity at her daughter's graduation or wedding.

So many of us know Misty Brown as a beautiful, strong woman, wife and mother. We know her as the person with a smile on her face, strong faith, and her head held high. We might think of her as well off financially and married to the good looking salon owner. We might even think of her as lucky and with envy.

Everything we think of Misty is true in many ways, but what so many of us don't know is what lies beneath her skin Seven years ago, unable to walk onher own, barely alive, broke, and preparing to say goodbye to her family, she finally had an answer. She was diagnosed with Cardiac Lyme Disease. Due to numerous misdiagnosis' and mistreatments that cost them well over $100,000 dollars to pay doctors that her insurance wouldn't cover, the answer was bittersweet, as her Lyme Disease was already in the third and last stage. The race began to save Misty's failing body.

After diagnosis, she endured 2 years of continual intravenous antibiotics through a central line and directly to her heart, and hourly oral medications that allowed to begin walking on her own again. After a total of 7 years on continual medications at a cost of $95,000 dollars that her insurance won't cover, it has finally taken its toll on her fragile and weak body. Unfortunately, while her kidneys and liver are failing from too many antibiotics, the disease will attack and severely damage her heart if she stops them. Although, this disease wll affect Misty for the rest of her life, there is hope. An amazing new treatment in Kansas has proven to have effective and successful results for those suffering with this disease.

Misty would never ask for anything from anyone. So, her husband and daughter, along with Boulder Creek Ranch, A.D.A.P.T. and Simply Sustainable, Inc. (both non-profit organizations) are asking you to come join us at the Boulder Creek Ranch Harvest Festival Chili Cookoff. In honor of Misty's strength and courage over the last 7 years we will not ask you to write her a check, but we will ask you to join us for a great time of chili tasting, live music, beer garden, pumpkin patch, childrens' activities and a great opportunity to give as a community.

October 9, 11am - 5pm

Profits from this event will be helping to send Misty to the Hansa Center for Optimum Health in Witchita, KS. Go to http://www.hansacente... for more information on the Hansa Center.
